Like so many others before her, Ava is a victim of greed. Ava  came from an Amish puppy mill in Lancaster, PA. Puppy mills are large breeding facilities that put greed before welfare. The greed of the Amish mills in PA, are all too common. For those that aren't aware of what is goes on, visit the website Prisoners of Greed, and you'll get a real true look inside what these dogs endure.

http://www.prisonersofgreed.org/Lancaster.html

Lancaster County, which is where Ava is from, is considered the puppy mill capital of the East Coast.

Ava is just one of thousands of dogs that has endured that has type of cruelty. Dogs from Amish mills live in rabbit hutches, or small spaces, with little access to food or water. They also typically never see grass, sunlight, or the touch of a human hand. They are treated like cattle. They tend to get little ( if any) vet care. Ava was one of the lucky ones though, who got out from this hell on earth. Ava was used for breeding, and when she could no longer produce puppies, she was taken to a local vet to be euthanized. But she had someone who was looking out for her…This vet saw what this poor soul had endured, and got her into rescue. We were contacted just in time, as we don't know if she would have survived much longer. Ava, like all dogs, deserved better, and had endured so much in her short life. Ava was emaciated. Under 7lbs. Thrown away like trash. She was lucky enough to be taken to a vet who works closely with our rescue. So knowing Ava's issues were  beyond her scope of care, she asked us to help. And so became the story of Ava.

Little Ava has a long road ahead of her. Due to neglect, beyond the obvious issues, she has limited vision, she has something called EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency), which doesn't allow her body to absorb protein. She barely has a pancreas left at all. She is on a special enzyme powder now, that over time, should help her with this.  She has dry eye, and is on tachrolymus to help her with tear production. She is also diabetic, and receives insulin twice daily. She is being treated for a horrific UTI. She is very weak. She is receiving B-12 shots, insulin, and a special diet. Her medical bill have already exceeded 2K. Her ultrasound shows abnormalities. But we will know more when she has a follow up ultrasound in 3 weeks. So many medications for such a small angel. But it will make her better. Stronger.

This little girl has a long way to go. But she is a fighter, Thank you for sharing her story, and for your support. Ava needs all the prayers and love you can send. There are so many "Ava's" out there waiting to be rescued. Thank you for being her voice.
